Our Work

We are a charity dedicated to helping sick children and their families in Jersey and to sponsor various community projects. Our main aims are to:

-Purchase life saving equipment for the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) and Children's (Robin) Wards at the General Hospital.

-Assist families with travel costs where there is a need to travel to the UK for their child's treatment.

-Assist families with the treatment of their children where there is a gap in funding provided by the States of Jersey.

-Sponsor educational community projects to benefit children island wide.

We raise funds for the Special Care Baby Unit and the Robin Ward (Children's Ward) of the hospital to help them purchase medical equipment. Last year, we assisted the Robin Ward with the purchase of a Baby Pod II transportation unit for infant air travel. We hope to assist the Special Care Baby Unit with the addition of a Family Room to the ward in 2014.

We assist Jersey families with sick children who must travel to the UK for treatment. While the States of Jersey will pay for the child patient and one parent, there are many associated costs which families can struggle to meet. The Hospital Travel Office will not pay the following costs:
  • relatives’ accommodation
  • food and meals
  • childcare
  • private arrangements
  • care of animals
  • maintenance of property and vehicles
  • loss of earnings
Furthermore, any reimbursement of travel costs and accommodation for non-emergency appointments are means tested so many families will receive nothing. The means testing extends to certain medication and medical equipment as well. We have been able to help more than ten families in the past year and we hope to be able help many more.
