FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
So
simple yet so effective!
A new year
brings a new charity for HJL’s Weighbridge
Giving scheme
When
local scrap firm HJL was set up to manage the metal recycling needs of the Island it very quickly pledged to have a positive impact
on the local community. Little more than
a year later, HJL customers have donated over £3,000 to charity as a result of
its Weighbridge Giving scheme and HJL have doubled the donations to in excess
of £6000 with our company match funding donation.
HJL
introduced Weighbridge Giving in April last year to provide the people of
Jersey with a way of exchanging their unwanted, discarded scrap metal for a
donation to the company’s selected charity.
People are asked to simply bring their scrap metal items to the Bellozanne Valley ,
St Helier site and tell the payment office they
want to donate its value to charity.
From
March 1st, HJL will be working with Jersey Children’s Charity to help
support some of their current projects.
The organisation was formed in 2011 to benefit the Special Care Baby
Unit, the Robin (Children’s) Ward and to help sick children and their families
with travel costs to the UK, medications and medical equipment. The charity has already handed over funds to
the Robin Ward for the purchase of a Baby Pod II
transportation unit for infant air travel.
Following
on from the success of Jersey Hospice Care, which ran as the HJL Weighbridge Giving
charity from April to December 2013, the company was keen to partner with a cause
that not only carried out all of its fundraising on the Island, but also
invested all of the funds raised in the same way and Jersey Children’s Charity
ticked all the boxes.
“We
have been overwhelmed by the response to our Weighbridge Giving scheme. We already knew that the people of Jersey were generous, but we had no idea just how
generous. We are delighted with the
amount raised for Jersey Hospice Care and now want to do the same for the
Jersey Children’s Charity,” said HJL Director James
Hunt .
The
Jersey Children’s Charity account will be up and running from the beginning of
next month giving the people of Jersey a couple of weeks to clear out their
sheds and garages, collect up their scrap metal, and be ready to donate it to
yet another deserving cause.
“We
were delighted to be approached by HJL.
The £6,000 they helped raise for Jersey Hospice Care is extremely
impressive and hope that the scheme will continue to be a great success. The money we raise helps provide financial
support to families with sick children being treated in the UK and to help
provide life saving medication and medical equipment to children over five when
the States of Jersey no longer covers these costs,” said Kristin Morris of the
Jersey Children’s Charity.
HJL is located at Bellozanne Scrap Yard, Bellozanne Valley, St Helier,
